Week Ending 11th May 2008
2008-05-11

Bank Holiday Monday, Nigel and I spent the whole day taking advantage of the relative peace and quiet trying desperately to catch up on some paperwork – you would be surprised how much there is to do. Nigel just had to nip off and bring Royall Oak back through Wroxham Bridge after it had spent the weekend up at Coltishall. Royall Sapphire returned today to have all reference to hiring deleted and to be tidied up.

Now the season is well under way we are now able to try and clear the back log of private boat work we have queuing up to be done. Paul started work on a private cruiser - she is having a new toilet and tank fitted but alas for her owner the diesel tank was found to be holed and dry rot was found in the floor bearers.

Nigel and Steve uncovered another private boat we look after ‘Sharomel’ and she will need quite a bit of work done also – both side decks have rotten patches in them. White Boat ‘Painted Lady’ was lifted out of the water and towed round to the pulling out shed to be painted and varnished. The gantry electrics went haywire and kept shorting out the whole yard and much bad language was to be heard coming out from the office door as my computer kept dying! After a some remedial work from Paul & Steve and a visit from the Electrician we now hope this problem has been sorted out.

All week the weather has been superb – brilliant blue skies and sun, sun, sun. Nigel and Paul had to break out the hats as neither of them have any thatch on top! Even the shorts made an appearance. After waiting so long for this lovely summer weather would you believe that one customer went home a day early because they were too hot!!! Friday and Saturday were the usual mad rush of turnrounds with everything that floats out we finally cleared the yard Saturday at about 4pm.

We were looking forward to a nice quiet Sunday at home when the crew of Royall Solitaire rang reporting they had broken down between Burgh Castle and St Olaves. Whilst trying to organise a tow to safety they rang back and had luckily been towed by Royall Ambassador 2’s crew to St Olaves. Nigel and Paul duly left for St Olaves around 11 to find the bolts holding the drive plate to the flywheel had sheared off – a major job! The crew of the Solitaire realising this was going to be a long job caught the train to Oulton Broad to watch the dragon boat racing. Finally after much back and forth Nigel and Paul got home at about 7.30pm.

Let’s hope we get a quieter Sunday next week.
