Week Ending 4th May 2008

Monday and Tuesday was taken up with doing all the last minute jobs on Pleasure Wherry ‘Solace’ and her attending craft – brown boat ‘Redshank’, dinghy and motor launch Tender. This included Steve rigging ‘Redshank’, Nigel & Steve cleaning through one last time and Dynamo Dave cleaning and polishing all the brass – a mammoth job. Amidst the sunshine and showers at last, late Tuesday morning Nigel and Steve pushed her with the Tender back up to her summer berth on Wroxham Broad, towing Nigel’s gunpunt ‘Plover’, as a means of getting back to the boatyard from the Broad.

Paul spent most of the week up to his neck in toilets as the toilets on one of the Ambassadors needed to be taken out and rebedded in. Not an easy task but carried out expertly by Paul. A couple more private boats were de-winterised and painting and polishing carried out on Royall Tiger.

The finishing touches were done on the Royall Oak and she went out on her first Royall cruise on Saturday the 3rd May with an all female crew!

The weather all week was sunshine and showers but Saturday turned into a lovely sunny day all day. As usual turnrounds on Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Most of the boats went out and after seeing the last customer away on Saturday afternoon (apart from one late arrival approx 9pm due to car breakdown), we rushed over to Freethorpe as a friend had telephoned earlier in the day to say they had a swarm of bees in their garden and would I like them. As over the winter I had lost 4 colonies I jumped at the chance and collected them and housed them in their new home without too much problem.

Sunday also saw us take in a new foster greyhound – partially sighted Patrick who after travelling over from Ireland Saturday and Sunday developed complications from his recent castration (ouch!) operation, and had to be rushed to the vets Sunday afternoon for emergency surgery. So now we are desperately trying to raise funds to pay a huge vets bill of approx £340 which the charity (Kerry Greyhound Connection) has to fund from its own pocket.
